Abstract

|
Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a syndrome of acute hypxemic respiratory failure following a variety of drect or indirect pulmonary insults and characterized by the acute development of pulmonary edema, the rapid onset of severe
hypoxia,
and diffuse bilateral infiltrates on chest radiography. The pathophysiologic hallmarker is increased permeability of the alveolar-capillary membrane. Mortality rates have ranged from 60% to 70% even with the improved respiratory and other organ
support.
We have experienced five cases with ARDS after viral pneumonia in a 8/12 year-old boy, a 1 9/12 year-old boy, a 7 5/12 year-old boy, a 2/12 year-old boy, and a 12/12 year-old boy who were admitted to our department of Pediatrics.
This is the report on their clinical and radiologic findings with brief review of literatures.
